DUBULA - Jordan Middle School Madrigals

about

David Starr Jordan Middle School Madrigals is the premiere middle school show choir and vocal music ensemble in Southern California. This spring, they nabbed their fifth 1st place victory at Verdugo Hills Chorus’ A Cappella Scholarship Festival, besting four competing middle school choirs. Even more impressively, this year’s performance earned the young artists higher marks from the competition’s esteemed panel of judges, all of them music industry professionals, than did most of the 10 competing high school choirs!

Additionally, for 10 full years, Madrigals has been ranked Superior in the Southern California Vocal Music Association Festival Awards, and have also claimed Superior Show Choir and Best All Around Middle School Choir 12 out of 13 times at Disneyland’s Music in the Parks Competition.

While Madrigals is much loved for their innovative, jubilant, deeply expressive show choir sets, they are also an unrivaled classical vocal music ensemble, channeling their talents, discipline, and creativity into a wide range of choral music that spans centuries and the globe. “Dubula,” for example, is a centuries-old South African folk song sung in the Xhosa tribe’s dialect.

Madrigals is the advanced choir at Jordan Middle School in Burbank, CA, a superlative program directed by Christine DeMore for more than 15 years. More than 300 students at Jordan – a full one-fourth of the campus population – participate in the school’s vocal music program, which includes four other extraordinary choirs. Mrs. DeMore is also adjunct faculty at USC’s Thornton School of Music, and was in 2013 awarded Education Through Music Los Angeles’ prestigious Shining Star Award.
